The new WebGAD 1.5
During 2008 our excellent web based AIS display has undergone a major upgrade, so the generation of maps is faster than ever.
The traditional way of generating a chart for web applications is having a chart server drawing vector graphics into a bitmap image. The image is then sent to the client’s web browser. However, this process is prohibitively slow in environments where many clients simultaneously request chart images – such as in heavily, used widely accessible AIS web display systems. GateHouse has recognised the need for a change and is preparing a new chart server for our web-based AIS solution.
The new chart server generates chart images for clients by combining multiple, pre-generated chart tiles into a single coherent image. Pre-generating the tiles allows them to be retrieved much more quickly, thus reducing the amount of time taken to present the image to the user’s browser.
